On Your Mark. Get Set. Go!

Introduction to the Christian Life

Welcome to the race (Get to Know God)!

The race is your Christian life where you are the player and the track leads to the gates of heaven and the eternal city of God.

On Romans 3:23-26, this clearly says that our sins are forgiven as a free gift that

can’t be earned, all we have to do is accept this gift that is given in love.

Why did God have Jesus, his son, die? It is because Jesus is the bridge that closes the gap

between our holy God and us sinful humans. Here’s how the bible book of Romans explains it:

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved,” says the bible in acts 16:31.

Would you like to run a new race — a Christian race? If so, God has heard your prayer. If you want to decide that

now, here is a prayer that shows you how to tell God what’s on your heart.

“Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and I need your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died in my place to pay for my sin.

I know that he came back to life in victory over death and evil, I now invite Jesus’ spirit to live in me.

Help me learn to please you in all I do.”

When you pray these words honestly, you have stepped over the starting line on a new race. (to be continued)

GETTING TO KNOW THE COACH JESUS

When you gave your life to Jesus Christ, you put yourself in the hands of a Coach. For an athlete, finding a coach is one thing.

Getting to know the coach is another.

How do you get to know a Coach who doesn’t speak out loud with his lips? How do you figure out his messages and directions?

God has sent the world a message through His Word, the Bible. Here’s what Jesus says about the Bible called the Scriptures:

He’s talking to people who don’t believe that he is God’s Son.

Read John 5: 37-40

Question: If you read the Bible who would you get to know?

Question: What will you find—and how?

Here’s what Saint Paul said about the Bible (2 Timothy 3: 15-17):

The Holy Scriptures are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Christ.

Read again the verses written by Paul. List what the Bible can show you or give you.

Question: What have you learned today about the Bible?

Prayer: Dear God, I want to know more about You. Show me Your love as I read the Bible. Thank You. Amen.

LEARNING TO TRUST THE COACH (HEBREWS 11:1-3)

TO HAVE FAITH IS TO BE SURE OF THINGS WE HOPE FOR, TO BE CERTAIN

OF THINGS WE CANNOT SEE.

HEBREW 12 TALKS ABOUT THE RACE WE RUN AND THE IMPORTANT ROLE

OF THE UNSEEN COACH: AS FOR US, WE HAVE THIS LARGE CROWD OF WITNESSES AROUND US.

SO THEN, LET US RID OURSELVES OF EVERYTHING THAT GETS IN THE WAY,

LET US KEEP OUR EYES FIXED ON JESUS ON WHOM OUR FAITH DEPENDS FROM BEGINNING TO END.

READ (HEBREWS 12: 1-3) AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS BELOW.

QUES----WHAT ABOUT A COACH WOULD GIVE YOU FAITH IN THAT PERSON?

QUES----WHAT DOES VERSES FROM HEBREWS 11 AND 12 TELL YOU ABOUT JESUS AND HIS SON?

QUES----WHAT GIVES YOU A REASON TO TRUST GOD?

GOD WANTS YOU TO TRUST HIM IN EVERY PART OF YOUR LIFE.

THINK ABOUT YOUR LIFE, YOUR RELATIONSHIPS, OR YOUR HABITS.

QUES---WHAT ONE PART OF YOUR LIFE WILL YOU MOST WANT TO SAY,   "I’LL DO IT MY WAY"?

QUES---IF YOU LOOK TO JESUS AS YOUR EXAMPLE AND COACH, WHAT WILL HAPPEN?

QUES---IN YOUR OWN WORDS, WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED TODAY ABOUT FAITH?

QUES---IN YOUR OWN WORDS, WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED TODAY ABOUT GOD AND HIS SON JESUS?

PRAYER: DEAR GOD, I WANT TO TRUST YOU WITH EVERY PART OF MY LIFE. HELP ME AS I LEARN MORE ABOUT WHO YOU ARE AND WHY I SHOULD TRUST YOU.  AMEN.

Talking and Listening to the Coach (July 17, 2020)

As a Christian, you have an “open line” to your coach 24 hours a day. He’s always waiting, eager to hear from you and to speak.

But what if you don’t know what to say to the Almighty Creator of the world? In the middle of the bible,

you will find the book of Psalms. God is not only your creator and coach; He’s also your friend.

Read Psalm 27. It is written by a man named David. After reading the verse, do the following activity:

  • At the beginning of this prayer, what does David’s heart tell him to do?
  • In your own words, write a short worship prayer. As you praise God for who He is, remind yourself of His goodness. This is a way to let your prayer speak to your spirit.
  • List the many things David ask God for.
  • Read David’s prayer again. List the things God has done or will do for David.
  • In your own words, write a short prayer of thanks for what God has done for you this week.
  • David is bold about telling God his troubles. Say a prayer that starts like David’s: Lord, hear me when I call. Then, tell God what troubles you face today. End your prayer as David ended his.

Remember: a good coach doesn’t do an athlete any good if he never talks or listens to the coach. You must ask God to guide you, but then you need to listen — as you pray, read the bible, and talk with other Christians in the race.

THE COMPLETE OUTFIT (EPHESIANS 6: 10-17)

    “GODS ARMOR”

A SERIOUS ATHLETE MAKES SURE TO HAVE THE PROPER –AND BEST—EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE FOR RUNNING THE RACE.

AGAIN, THAT’S HOW IT IS WITH CHRISTIAN LIFE. THE BIBLE BOOK OF EPHESIANS REFERS TO THE CHRISTIAN LIFE AS A FIGHT. THE BOOK CLEARLY TELLS ABOUT THE EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR THE FIGHT. FINALLY, LET THE LORD MAKE YOU STRONG. DEPEND ON HIS MIGHTY POWER. PUT ON ALL OF GOD’S ARMOR, THEN YOU CAN STAND FIRM AGAINST THE DEVIL’S EVIL PLANS. OUR FIGHT IS NOT AGAINST HUMAN BEINGS.

IT IS AGAINST THE RULERS, THE AUTHORITIES AND THE POWERS OF THIS DARK WORLD. IT IS AGAINST THE SPIRITUAL FORCES OF EVIL IN THE HEAVENLY WORLD.SO PUT ON GOD’S ARMOR NOW! THEN WHEN THE EVIL DAY COMES, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO RESIST THE ENEMY’S ATTACKS; AND AFTER FIGHTING TO THE END, YOU WILL STILL HOLD YOUR GROUND.

    • READ THE VERSES AGAIN. LIST ALL THE PIECES OF THE ARMOR OF GOD. THE FIRST ONE WOULD BE “BELTH OF TRUTH” (YOU MIGHT ALSO DRAW A PICTURE WEARING THE ARMOR.LABEL EACH PIECE)

    • READ ALL THE VERSES AGAIN. LIST ALL THE THINGS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DO IF YOU ARE WEARING THIS SPIRITUAL EQUIPMENT.

    • WHO IS NOT YOUR ENEMY? WHO IS YOUR ENEMY?

    • THE DEVIL HAS MANY TRICKS UP HIS SLEEVE. ONE IS TO MAKE YOU FEEL AS IF GOD DOESN’T LOVE YOU. WHAT IS ANOTHER TRICK HE HAS TRIED TO PLAY ON YOU THIS WEEK?

    • THINK ABOUT THE NEXT TIME THE DEVIL MIGHT PLAY THIS TRICK ON YOU. WHAT PIECES OF ARMOR COULD PROTECT YOU OR HELP YOU FIGHT BACK?

    • THE WORD POWER APPEARS ONCE IN THESE VERSES. WHOSE POWER IS BEHIND ANY VICTORY YOU HAVE?

    • WRITE OR SAY YOUR OWN PRAYER. IN YOUR OWN WORDS, TELL GOD WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED IN THIS LESSON. ASK HIM TO HELP YOU REMAIN STRONG AND EQUIPPED. THANK HIM FOR THE HELP HE HAS GIVIN YOU.”

    “WHAT IF I TRIP UP”

    (1 JOHN 1: 9) (1 JOHN (2: 2) ( ROMANS 3: 27-31 )

WALKING IN THE LIGHT BECOMING RIGHT WITH GOD

IT WAS SAID PRACTICE MAKE PERFECT. THERE ISN’T AN ATHLETE IN THE WORLD WHO PERFORMS PERFECTLY-------EVERY TIME. NOT BEING PERFECT IS PART WHAT MEANS TO BE HUMAN. THE BIBLE GIVES INSTRUCTIONS FOR WHAT A CHRISTIAN SHOULD DO WHEN YOU KNOW YOU HAVE TRIPPED UP-----SINNED. THE BOOK OF 1 JOHN IS WRITTEN FOR CHRISTIANS –PEOPLE WHO HAVE ACCEPTED CHRIST AND BECOME A CHILD OF GOD. IN THE FIRST LINE THE WORD “CONFESS” MEANS THAT YOU SHOULD GO TO GOD IN PRAYER AND ADMIT THAT YOU FAILED HIM. TELL HIM THAT YOU WANT TO GET UP AND START RUNNING AGAIN.

    • GOD IS FAITHFUL AND FAIR. IF WE ADMIT THAT WE HAVE SINNED, HE WILL FORGIVE US OUR SINS. HE WILL MAKE US PURE.

    • THESE VERSES REPEAT THE WORD SIN OR WRONGDOING NINE TIMES. WHAT DO THESE VERSES SAY YOU SHOULD DO WITH OR ABOUT SIN?

    • WHAT DO THESE VERSES SAY THAT GOD WILL DO WITH OR ABOUT YOUR SIN?

    • WHO IS YOUR “DEFENSE” ----YOUR LAWYER BEFORE THE HEAVENLY JUDGE?

    • THE REAL FRUIT OF THE CHRISTIAN LIFE COMES AS WE ARE CONNECTED TO GOD’S POWER SOURCE. IT DOESN’T COME FROM OURSELVES.ROMAN 3. TALKS ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A CHRISTIAN’S FAITH AND RIGHT LIVING (KEEPING THE LAW) :

    • WHAT, THEN, CAN WE BOAST ABOUT? NOTHING! AND WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THIS? IS IT THAT WE OBEY THE LAW? NO, BUT THAT WE BELIEVE. FOR WE CONCLUDE THAT A PERSON IS PUT RIGHT WITH GOD ONLY THROUGH FAITH, AND BY DOING WHAT THE LAW COMMANDS… DOES THIS MEAN THAT BY THIS FAITH WE DO AWAY WITH THE LAW? NO, INSTEAD, WE UPHOLD THE LAW (ROMANS 3: 27-31).

    • AS YOU RUN ON AHEAD IN THE CHRISTIAN RACE, WHAT MIGHT YOU WANT TO START BRAGGING ABOUT?

    • WHAT DO THESE VERSES SAY ABOUT BRAGGING?

    • IN YOUR OWN WORDS, TELL HOW FAITH AND DOING RIGHT ARE RELATED TO EACH OTHER. WHICH “DRIVES” THE OTHER?

PRAYER: DEAR GOD, I WANT TO DO RIGHT. AS I RUN THIS CHRISTIAN RACE, HELP ME TO KEEP A BALANCE. I WANT TO KEEP MY EYES ON YOU, THE COACH. WHEN I TRIP UP LET ME KNOW. AMEN

    BIBLE STUDIES ONLINE (LAST CHAPTER)
    THE PRACTICE RUN.

    ACTS 2: 41- 42. ISAIAH 40:27-31.

WE LEARNED THE IMPORTANCE OF READING THE BIBLE EVERYDAY.

THE SIX STEPS BELOW THE 1ST LETTERS SPELL THE WORD “PRAISE”

STEP 1: PRAY. BEFORE YOU READ THE SCRIPTURE, STOP AND PRAY. “LORD OPEN MY EYES AND TEACH ME A LESSON TODAY.”

STEP 2: READ. SLOWLY READ A BIT OF SCRIPTURE. TODAY, LET’S WALK THROUGH THIS PATTERN FOR BIBLE STUDY BY READING THESE POETRY VERSES FROM ISAIAH: ISRAEL, WHY THEN DO YOU COMPLAIN THAT THE LORD DOES’NT KNOW YOUR TROUBLES OR CARE IF YOU SUFFER INJUSTICE? DON’T YOU KNOW? HAVEN’T YOU HEARD? THE LORD IS THE EVERLASTING GOD; HE CREATED ALL THE WORLD. HE NEVER GROWS TIRED OR WEARY. NO ONE UNDERSTANDS HIS THOUGHTS. HE STRENGTHENS THOSE WHO ARE WEAK AND TIRED.

    (ISAIAH 40: 27-31)

STEP 3: ASK YOURSELF WHAT YOU CAN LEARN FROM THESE VERSES.

    • WHAT DO THESE VERSES TELL ME ABOUT GOD?

    • WHAT DO THEY TELL ME ABOUT MYSELF?

    • WHAT DO THESE VERSES TELL ME TO DO?

    • WHAT DO THESE VERSES TELL ME TO BE?

    • DO THESE VERSES GIVE A PROMISE I CAN CLAIM?

STEP 4: IN YOUR OWN WORDS. WRITE OUT ONE OR TWO POINTS YOU WANT TO REMEMBER FROM THIS PASSAGE.

STEP 5: SIT. BEFORE YOU RUN OFF FOR THE DAY’S RACE OR THE NIGHTS SLEEP, SIT QUIETLY BEFORE GOD. LET HIS SPIRIT SPEAK TO YOUR SPIRIT. YOU MIGHT READ THE VERSES AGAIN, LISTENING FOR GOD’S VOICE.

STEP 6: EXPECT. END YOUR STUDY THANKING GOD FOR WHAT HE CAN DO FOR YOU THIS DAY. REMIND YOURSELF THAT THE FIRST LETTER OF THESE SIX STEPS SPELLS “PRAISE” COURAGE FOR A NEW DAY.

AS YOU RUN THE CHRISTIAN RACE, CHRISTIANS AROUND THE COUNTRY IS PRAYING FOR YOU.

THEY MAY NOT KNOW YOUR NAME, BUT THEY PRAY DAILY THAT GOD WILL GIVE STRENGTH TO NEW BELIEVERS, WHY NOT PRAY DAILY FOR YOUR CHRISTIAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY? PRAY THAT THEY RUN A STRONG RACE, FOR JESUS’ SAKE.

AS A NEW CHRISTIAN YOU WILL NEED TO STAY CONNECTED TO THE BODY OF CHRIST-THE CHURCH. FELLOWSHIP WITH YOUR CHRISTIAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS

(ACTS 2: 41-42) MANY OF THEM BELIEVED (THE) MESSAGE AND WERE BAPTIZED, AND ABOUT 3,000 PEOPLE WERE ADDED TO THE CHURCH THAT DAY. THEY SPENT THEIR TIME IN LEARNING FROM THE APOSTLES, TAKING PART IN FELLOWSHIP, AND SHARING THE FELLOWSHIP MEALS AND PRAYERS.

    • THE NEW CHRISTIANS BELIEVED IN JESUS AND WERE BAPTIZED. BY BEING BAPTIZED YOU PUBLICLY CLAIM THAT YOU ARE A NEW PERSON IN CHRIST.

    • THEY JOINED THE CHURCH. THEY MET REGULARLY WITH OTHER CHRISTIANS FOR WORSHIP, FOR FELLOWSHIP, AND FOR “FELLOWSHIP MEALS” “COMMUNION”

    • THEY PRAYED. THEY GATHERED TO PRAY AS A GROUP, CHRISTIANS ALSO PRAY WHEN THEY ARE ALONE. WITH THIS DISCIPLINE AND TRAINING, AND WITH GOD’S POWER, THESE FIRST CHRISTIANS SPREAD THE GOOD NEWS OF CHRIST AROUND THE WORLD. THEY WERE WITNESSES TO THEIR NEIGHBORS THAT GOD CAN CHANGE A HEART. “YOU TOO ARE WITNESSES AS YOU RUN THE CHRISTIAN RACE” TO CONTINUE THE RACE….THE CHRISTIAN LIFE IS A MARATHON, NOT A SPRINT. HAVING BEGUN A RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST, THE NEW BELIEVER NOW HAS AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY TO GROW IN FAITH, TO FOLLOW THE TEACHINGS OF THE BIBLE, AND UNDERSTAND MORE OF GOD’S UNIQUE PLAN FOR EACH PERSONS LIFE. GROWTH AND FOLLOW-UP OPPORTUNITIES IN THE BODY OF CHRIST (THE CHURCH)
